She’s Coming Around.

Zeke

It took a huge effort on my part not to kiss her tonight. The way she pouted over dinner was sexy as hell. I could tell she was trying to be a good sport and that she was still a little uncomfortable around me, but she agreed to stay and eat, so that’s something. I hate to say it, but I think I'm falling for her.

Fast too.

Which is unfortunate. She certainly isn't interested in me though, or maybe she is, and she’s just playing hard to get. Women are finicky like that sometimes. She seems to grow angry and jumpy every time we touch each other. Which isn't a good sign, or it's possible she’s just wary. I’ve never been turned down before and I know how much of a catch I am. Not to sound cocky or anything, but I’m a very good-looking guy.

Man, get a hold of yourself.

You just met the damn woman, and she did say she’s expecting a friend, probably a boyfriend.

Beautiful women like Alexia Jamisen don't stay single, and truthfully a relationship with her isn’t an option for me at the moment, but that doesn’t mean that I don’t want her to want me or that we couldn’t have a few tussles in the hay.

You can't care about her.

Remember what she did?

The little voice inside my head is screaming at me. Nagging little thing refuses to stay silent. I’m so conflicted, and honestly, I'm torn on what I really want to do.

“Did you see her off safely?” Gran asks as I walk back into the house.

“Yes, she’s gone,” I reply, combing my fingers through my hair. I take a seat on the sofa across from her. I don't know what I would do without her in my life.

“You like her don't you?” she asks knowingly. I never could get anything past her. She can read me like an open book.

“I do, but she sure doesn't seem to like me much.” I walk over and place a kiss on top of her head before pulling the small quilt across her lap. She will be up a while longer. She usually stays up later than I do, but I am dog tired and I need to be up early in the morning.

“She’ll come around. I saw the way she was looking at you earlier.” Gran sets down her quilting needles before giving my hand a soft squeeze. She is so small now, so frail. Still as sharp as ever though.

“Goodnight,” I call after her before heading down to my room.
